Five Ramblers and five guests took to Erg mountain for a day of fantastic views and great exercise.  Erg starts with an almost knee high, frigid crossing of the Ptarmingan Creek. The Ptarmigan headwater is the Capra glacier about 10km upstream. Then a gentle 2.5km hike through forest and an overgrown gravel pit that was used to build the Yellowhead highway. Up next is a steep climb for 3 km averaging a 30% grade that ends in the meadows. You start to get some views, to the east, after hiking 1000m vertical. As you hike across the meadows you get a good view of Mary Harper ridge. Mary Harper was a founding and longtime member of the Caledonia Ramblers.  From on top of the ridge you get a stunning view of the Cariboo's to the south and to the east. After a drop down to a saddle the final climb to the summit of Erg begins. Atop the summit are two Cairns. With plenty of room to explore the top and get great 360 degree views. All 10 participants made it to the summit this year, making for a very successful trip.
