Hallis Lake

Description

Hallis Lake is Nordic ski centre located 4 km east of Quesnel. It offers over 75 km of networked multi-use trails that are well maintained. In the winter season it provides Nordic skiing opportunities, and in the summer, it provides excellent hiking opportunities with one accessible trail that leads to a viewing platform overlooking the lake.

Goodsir Nature Park

Description

Goodsir Nature Park is a 160-acre park, located roughly 30 kilometres north of Prince George. The trails are well-maintained and have various interpretive signs along the way, identifying all the native plant and tree life in the region. Two botanical gardens have native trees from other areas of BC, as well as other species from different provinces and territories growing there.

Goodsir Nature Park has been designated a Canadian Botanical Conservatory and includes walking trails, a naturalist museum and Jim Good’s collection of hundreds of botanical species.

Ferguson Lake

Description

Ferguson Lake is a small and beautiful lake on the north eastern edge of the Prince George city limits. It's a great place to go for a nice walk around the picturesque lake and to view a couple of homesteaders homes built in the early 1900s. You can choose to go either way around the lake. The trail is well maintained with a few nice boardwalks. Most of the trail is quite flat with very few gentle slopes.

Centennial Trail

Description

The Centennial Trail is a 30 km trail that circumnavigates the "Bowl" area of Prince George. Kilometer zero located at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park. Heading north on the Heritage River Trail, the trail heads towards the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser Rivers and into Cottonwood Island Park. It skirts the Nechako River and exits the Heritage River Trail at the Cameron Street bridge.

Dragon Lake

Description

Located just south of Quesnel BC, Dragon Lake is one of the jewels of the Cariboo and is the home of trophy size rainbow trouts.

Blackwater Canyon Trails

Description

From the back end of recreation site/campground follow a forestry trail going east for about 1 km to where it joins the Indian pack trail overlooking the Blackwater River. A further 1.5 km reaches a fork where taking the right fork (Canyon Trail) continues near the river. Taking the left fork ascends grassy slopes to the escarpment for 1.3 km and an excellent viewpoint. Follow the escarpment east for 1.5 km where markers lead you down to the Canyon Trail.

Moore's Meadow

Description

One of the many popular parks located within Prince George and is quite popular with dog walkers. This park is located at the bottom of a gully with several trails leading off of it. Since this park is located on the edge of town, there is a chance of running to some wildlife, so be aware.

The area contains over 5kms of trails that can provide many hours of peaceful exploration.

Quesnel River

Description

The hike begins on the north side of Woodridge Road, approximately 500 metres west of the Racing Road/Woodridge Road intersection and south of the Quesnel River, in east/central Quesnel. Quesnel is 125 km south of Prince George.

Hikers can park their vehicles at a gas line clearing on the north side of Woodridge Road where the hike begins at an elevation of 627 metres (2,056 feet). The route descends north through the clearing to just above the Quesnel River (507 metres or 1,663 feet), where it swings east along an old road, following the river. The road ends at the river.

Eskers Park

Description

This unique wilderness park is the result of glacial deposits and comprises of more than 70 lakes and ponds. It is great place to hike, snowshoe, fish, cross-country ski, canoe and bird watch. There are several trails in the park ranging from short 3 km hikes up to longer 14 km excursions.

A 50-kilometre walk around the city of Prince George that begins and ends at Cottonwood Island Park on River Road. It winds in and around the city, connecting picturesque city parks, pleasant riverside trails, popular forest trails and the occasional opportunity for refreshment.
