Located about 18 kms east-southeast of Tumuch Lake and about 115 kms southeast of Prince George.
The trail initially follows a old logging road for 3.3 km, then crosses an old clearcut (.6 km) before ascending through subalpine forest (1 km) to beautiful meadows at 1800 m.
A short walk across the meadows give access to a ridge with many peaks that are visible from Highway 16 in the Dome Creek area. Good views of Mt. Sir Alexander and the rest of the north Rockies may be had. It is a good area to see wildlife especially caribou and grizzly bears.
Located about 105 kms southeast of Prince George, via Highway 16 and Hungary Creek Forest Road. This attractive area in the Sugarbowl-Grizzly Den Prov. Park; developed over a number of years, is popular with both cross-country skiers and hikers. Includes Raven Lake, Grizzly Den and Tumuch Trail systems and 3 cabins. ~10km round trip to the cabin at Raven Lake and back, further if you do the ridge traverse.
This trail is located near Barkerville, about 90 kms east of Quesnel. via H 97 and H 26. The trail is basically an old mining road that is followed south from Barkerville, elevation 1370 m (4500 ft); to Groundhog Lake, elevation 1783 m (5850 ft). It is 8.5 km to the lake making the round trip 17 km.
A cabin at the lake sleeps more than a dozen people although it may be a mess. From the lake there is easy access to Mount Agnes, elevation 1983 m (6506 ft), Elk Mountain, and Bald Mountain.
Located on a section of the National Hiking Trail, it is located approximately 163 kms East of Prince George via H 16. There is more then one way to enter it: the North end at Loos; at the Highway 16 crossing; and at the south end on the Goat River Forest Road. The trail is very well marked, well maintained, and moderately easy hike. The trail goes through some magnificent old forest, primarily western Red Cedar.
UPDATED (July 2023) - This trail is located 115 km east of Prince George, and 55 km east of Upper Fraser within the McGregor Plateau and McGregor River drainage. Currently the Gleason FSR to the 17.5km parking area is passable (SUV or better recommended). The trail was cleared in the summer of 2022 and more chainsaw work was done in late June of 2023.
Located about 110 kms southeast of Prince George,via Highway 16 and Hungary Creek Forest Road. This attractive area in Sugarbowl-grizzly Den Prov. Park , developed over a number of years, is popular with both cross-country skiers and hikers. Trail includes 8-Mile and Grizzly Den cabins. Forms part of the Raven Lake Trail, and Tumuch trail systems. The Leprechaun Ridge Trail is a longer and more strenuous variant and forks off at 3 km mark.
From the trail head, one can hike or ski to the top of Little Bell Mountain, elevation 1980 m (6500 ft), or Big Bell Mountain, elevation 2160 m (7100 ft) to the west. Excellent views of the Cariboo Mountains can be seen to the west and south, the Rockies to the north, and the village of McBride to the east. This is one of the easiest routes to the alpine in the Prince George/McBride areas.
